Starving cancer: Dominic D’Agostino at TEDxTampaBay

Dr. D’Agostino is an Assistant Professor at the University of South Florida College Of Medicine, Molecular Pharmacology & Physiology where he develops and tests metabolic therapies, including alternative energy substrates and ketogenic agents for neurological disorders, cancer and wound healing. While studying the effects of gasses on the brains of Navy Seal divers, he developed an approach for metabolically starving cancer cells through diet and compressed oxygen, replacing chemotherapy, surgery, or radiation.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

  1. Otto Warburg, Seyfried: not brute force but intelligence can cure cancer. Believing in aggressive treatments including surgery means not understanding that cancerous cells are highly mutated and therefore extremely weak compared to healthy cells. It also means not understanding that the disease is enhanced by a diet our organism is not equipped to tolerate (as it evolved from hunters and gatherers that did not yet know industrial agriculture)

  2. As someone who recently lost a friend to cancer, I wish I knew this years ago. Of course, she never told me it was cancer for a couple of years, and I am grateful that after being given a few months to live that she lasted several years. Still, the medicine she took caused her weight to balloon. If I knew of fasting, I would have encouraged it if only to see her better and still have her here. I wish at some point a doctor mentioned it. I plan to switch to a fasting lifestyle. Modern medicnrecan be such BS at times, caring more about making money than the best treatment (especially, if it's 100% free and costs nothing).

  3. Dominic, I hope you see this post.  I want to offer you an alternate understanding of the cancer cell.  My theory is that it is a last ditch effort by the body to handle the unnatural amounts of carbohydrate our agricultural society puts into our bodies.  We have some ways to buffer and clear this glucose.  We store lots of it as fat.  We vent much of it by spilling it into the urine.  But, ultimately, the body must resort to a third method of clearing destructive levels of glucose from our blood.  We build specialized cancer cells that consume higher than normal amounts of glucose (compared to the normal cells in our body.)  The cancer cells clear destructive levels of glucose by the building of these cancer masses.  Its a last ditch strategy because the body must in a short amount of time begin to dismantle these cancer masses and rebuild the body tissues with normal cells before the effected organs are so compromised as to cease to function at the necessary level.       Just about all the disease that afflicts our bodies can be understood as attempts on its part to deal with unsustainable demands placed on it.  And in the long run the body must ultimately break down and fail us.

  4. Love your work mate. Thank you so much for your research and insight.

I hope you find a way to share this with the masses for health benefits and a modest profit.

  5. Studies need to be done around cannabis, the munchies, it's lowering of insulin resistance and the mountain high anecdotal and in vitro evidence that it cures cancer. I just find it all too coincidental, these studies need to be done.

  6. Dr.Sebi already taught all of this and was sued by the government and won. He died mysteriously in police custody and now all these white folks are acting like they came up with this knowledge.RIP DR.SEBI. Yet another thing that these folks have stolen from Black people.

  7. I'm a chronic cluster head and I'm using ketodiet to control my clusters. At today, i'have had a total remission for 9 months. If drugs don't work, or simply if you are tired of side effects, definitely you have to give it a try!

  8. Bravo, Dr D. we need more medical scientist like you. It saved a few of my loved ones' health, some very serious, when I practiced on them what I learnt from Dr. D early 2013. one of my loved ones, who's a SEAL for 14 years himself, didn't know about this experiment but now is also cutting on his carb intake. But being young and heavily trained, he wasn't aware of the damaging effect of carb on him. Please spread the good words! Thanks

  9. This is an interesting video and I'm very glad that there is a diet for those who have drug resistant seizure disorders. What I was curious about is the gut microbiome of those with this condition. It would be cool to know what their biota measures like before and after the introduction of the diet that reduces / eliminates the seizures. I ask this because I am wondering if the changes in organisms in the gut producing (or reducing) by products of digestion have anything to do with this problem. For example, if one particular species increases with the new diet, could supplementation of the species alone or in addition to the diet help the seizures.

  10. Dr.Dominic thank you so much for all of your hard work! I have listened to a lot of your interviews, and your work is such an inspiration. I experiment with myself in Keto all the time, I hope to find out why it was so hard for your keno-adaptation (because mine has been brutal is well) Your so polite, its so funny to me that people keep getting your name wrong- and you dont correct them! Please keep up the great work!

  11. As a method of healing cancer, I don't understand how Keto can negate
the fact that you eat eggs/meat/dairy and these animal proteins increase
IGF1 which increases chances of cancer growth, so unless there is
something that protects or stops IGF1 from affecting growth. do the fats
stop this? And also if someone coming from a vegan or very low protein
diet swithes to keto doesn't this tax the kidneys?
I was diagnosed with cholesterolosis (gallbladder polyps made from
cholesterol on the GB wall) last year and last month diagnosed with
Fatty Liver and so now my strategy is to severely restrict my carb
intake so that my liver will start to use up this fat in my liver, I was
just worried about my kidneys and cancer, seeing as animal proteins
will increase IGF1, so I just don't understand how keto diets or eating
animal protein help protects against cancer I always thought IGF1
    increases the chances of cancer.
I want to reduce my feeding window to about 5 to 7hrs so basically I
will be fasting everyday, I'm not doing a full fast because I have been
taking meds for 20yrs (paxil and prilosec – tapering slowly off these
drugs now) and so can't fast whilst on these meds.
I want to be taking 800cal per day in two meals, I did see a documentary
of one guy who did this and reversed his fatty liver (with before and
after scans for proof) he followed this 800cal very low carb diet and
reached his goal after two months, obviously can't ingest too many fats
as they'll send you over 800cal quickly.

What I don't understand is that some diets like the McDougall and Gerson
don't include any animal proteins, as they say they drive cancer growth
and yet keto says that their way can heal cancer, I don't get it, can
    anybody explain please.

  12. I found an obscure article about scientists in Canada finding that MEBENDAZOLE (a parasite medication for the treatment of worms) will shrink tumors.

Apparently – Mebendazole starves worms – AND CANCEROUS TUMORS OF SUGAR.

I bet that Mebendazole will amplify the the anti-tumor effects of the Ketogenic diet!!
