Dr. Lissa Rankin: “Mind Over Medicine: Scientific Proof You Can Heal Yourself” | Talks at Google

While some mind-body medicine pioneers and New Age teachers talk about how we can heal ourselves, Dr. Lissa Rankin was a skeptical physician, trained in evidence-based academic medicine and raised by a closed-minded physician father.

But after witnessing patients who declined conventional medical treatment, only to experience spontaneous remissions from seemingly “”incurable”” illnesses, she couldn’t deny the possibility that patients might hold within them the power to heal themselves. Her curiosity led her to dig deep into the medical literature to scientifically prove that the mind can heal the body.

Her search uncovered not only proof that you can heal yourself, but also the shocking physiological mechanisms of how emotions like fear, loneliness, pessimism, and depression can make the body sick, while love, intimate connection, optimism, and faith can cure you.

About Dr. Rankin
Lissa Rankin, M.D. is a physician whose research led her to discover that our bodies have natural self-repair mechanisms that can be activated or disabled based on thoughts, beliefs, and feelings that originate in the mind. She is on a mission to heal our broken health care system, help patients play a more active role in healing themselves, heal, train and certify physicians in a more enlightened way of practicing medicine, and encourage the health care industry to embrace and facilitate, rather than resist, the body’s self-healing capacities. Lissa has written 3 books, including her newest book Mind Over Medicine: Scientific Proof That You Can Heal Yourself. She speaks around the world, blogs at LissaRankin.com, paints professionally, and founded the Whole Health Medicine Institute, a training program for health care providers. She leads a mentoring program for visionaries, founded the wellness communities HealHealthCareNow.com and OwningPink.com, and teaches online programs, such as “”Find Your Calling”” with Dr. Martha Beck and Amy Ahlers, and “”Visionary Ignition Switch,”” an online business school for visionaries co-created with Amy Ahlers.

Her work has been featured extensively in the national media, including O magazine, The New York Times, CNN, Health, Women’s Health, Self, Forbes, The Chicago Tribune, Glamour, and Cosmopolitan.

  1. Hi I found a spot where you can find lot of new yoga tips available on the internet. All you have to do is type: "MindYoga4U" in Google. It will be very helpful to you personally.

  2. A placebo effect is not an "effect," it's the absence of one. The talk is nice and talker is even nicer, but there's zero real evidence to support her claims as for real deep physiological changes for better or worse in one's body as a result of one's thoughts.

  3. LOOOOOVE your presentation, yet there are so many fictions in todays media, that 4 min mile bs is one of them…wasted so much time watching that chariots of fire movies and other relative horseshit, there have been African runners for millenia able to do that 4min mile shit with ease…and then another 50 on top of it, and still at a good speed the whole way…http://beyondgrowth.net/positive-thinking/the-4-minute-mile-and-the-myths-of-positive-thinking/ THE COMMENTS ARE THE BEST PART OF THAT PAGE! Yeah, one of them got chased by a lion or some crap, guarantee you they were doing that in under 4mins.

  4. So poor people are sick because they eat junk food and don't exercise, generalisation, well off people are neurotic, another generalisation . Poor people have the same emotional problems as well off people but well off people have more toys to play with. All people need love security social interaction and hope

  5. You come to such a high level of academic prowess you realize the thoughts of a child. Logic has its place but imagination is endless. If there is one place your mind has the most control over it is the place it is encased in; your body. The conscious and subconscious are like a ven diagram. There is significant crossover in the people who dictate their own biometrics. Wim Hof is probably one of the best.

  6. this is the same talk she did at her Ted talk, Saint Lissa finding the medical answers where all the other doctors can't, still the book sales a healthy

  7. I heard that a red blood cell can be converted back to a stem cell by an electric current so small your mind can produce it. And I just made a mental connection between that and the Ebner effect……….hmmmmm….

  8. I believe in this "new" medical perspective, very interesting at least in Wester society we dont know so much about Ayurveda, its a very ancient model so similar with she said it.

  9. Wow I agree with her! Stress is so bad for us. I was under so much stress after becoming a mother. I've never felt that much anxiety and lack of control. Then a year later I get a cancer diagnosis at a young age. I know stress had everything to do with it. I really need to work on relaxation and finding things to do everyday that I enjoy.

  10. Love this video so I will continue my meditation to increase my subconscious mind so that it can heal it self.
    God bless us all,
    Gustavo Ceja

  11. This amazing.. There is potential in all our minds to heal our bodies.. The time lag between potential and actual is the mystery; I have found intentionally focusing the mind on positive believe through listening to stuff like this again and again gets you there
