Could Increasing the Melanin In Your Skin Protect You From Cancer?

Researchers are looking into the effects of raising melanin levels in skin to prevent melanoma. Here’s what you need to know.

Two-Thirds of All Cancers Are Caused by One Thing: Your DNA –

Mammalian pigmentation is regulated by a distinct cAMP-dependent mechanism that controls melanosome pH
“The production of melanin increases skin pigmentation and reduces the risk of skin cancer. Melanin production depends on the pH of melanosomes, which are more acidic in lighter-skinned than in darker-skinned people. We showed that inhibition of soluble adenylyl cyclase (sAC) controlled pigmentation by increasing the pH of melanosomes both in cells and in vivo.”

What Is Melanoma?
“The most dangerous form of skin cancer, these cancerous growths develop when unrepaired DNA damage to skin cells (most often caused by ultraviolet radiation from sunshine or tanning beds) triggers mutations (genetic defects) that lead the skin cells to multiply rapidly and form malignant tumors.”

What causes a sunburn or a suntan?
“Any time your skin is not protected by sunscreen or clothes and gets too much sun, it can burn or tan. But why do some people get a sunburn and others get a suntan? You have something called melanin in your skin. It’s the stuff that gives your skin its color. People who have dark skin have more melanin. People who have light skin have less.”

  1. I hate my skin since it gets darker each year.. and people of my race like light skin which I don’t have anymore I never cared about my skin color but now I do since I’m afraid that my future generations are going to become dark like me

  2. As the Atmosphere changes due to an increase in Gama Ray's coming towards our planet from planet nine or nubriu, which by the way is what is heating up the planet, only people with melanin will survive. White people without melanin will have to secronize with machines to survive or die.

  3. That answer is yes, every other race is non melanated. Sorry white folks but not, this is a pure example of you people not being original. The Sun/Son do not like you…
This is why you people hate us cause you not us. Sun block? You see what I mean.

  4. This is very interesting. Another advantage to people with more melanin is that our skin doesn’t age as quickly. I am a 37 year old medium brown black woman who gets asked if Iam 24 or 25 on a regular basis . It used to bother me that I don’t look my age but it’s actually a blessing. As as long as we don’t smoke, do drugs or drink a lot we don’t wrinkle as fast . There are pros and cons to having both skin types .

  5. Ok now once you go blacc you can never go back

  6. Darker skin people are made for the sun . Every nationality has its own habitat Europeans are born in a colder climate. Mexicans , blacks and other races are born in warmer climates. European colonizers dont belong in warmer countries even certain states in America. Other races can pretty much go anywhere and they'll be fine.

  7. Makes sense why everyone hates black people…. jealous smh they new this thousand of years ago. Should we talk about human evolution when it comes to skin color now?

  8. @seeker If having melanin is better, why people like light colored skin? Is there a scientific reason or just marketing?

PS. Please keep your racist comments to yourself. I am not white guy.

  9. so basically if i take melanin im probably going to have a hard time finding a job, constantly will get pulled over by the police and will eventually end up in prison and will have to change my name to lee roy
